Built around the way people learn

We design useful products around clear information, approachable interfaces and shared interests. Every feature starts with a purpose and the people it serves.

Our approach to product design

We bring practical learning tools and a little personality together, with a clear reason for every feature.

Start with a useful purpose

Every feature should help someone do something that matters to them. We start with the learning goal and shape the experience around it.

Make the next step clear

Learning is challenging enough. Clear language, readable interfaces and predictable interactions help people focus on what they came to learn.

Make practice inviting

A warm visual style and a sense of progress can make it easier to come back. We use playfulness to support practice and keep the experience approachable.

Give people room to connect

People can offer encouragement, a new perspective or an answer that makes something click. We value community alongside individual study.

Support the work of learning

There is no single way to study. Different moments call for different tools.

Sometimes you need an explanation. Sometimes you need to practise what you have learned, review a mistake or check how far you have come. A useful product helps you move between those moments without losing your place.

With JLPTMatome, this means bringing Japanese lessons, flashcard drills and JLPT simulations together. Learners can work towards their own goals and find opportunities to connect with others along the way.

What this means in practice

For JLPTMatome, our approach comes down to a few everyday decisions.

Help people find their starting point

Organise study content around Japanese proficiency levels so learners can find material that fits their current needs.

Turn practice into understanding

Give learners ways to review, practise and revisit what needs more attention as they prepare for the JLPT.

Make space for shared interests

Bring community into the learning experience so people can share questions, experiences and encouragement.

Good products keep improving

Questions, suggestions and accessibility feedback help us understand what people need. If something could be clearer or easier to use, we want to hear it.
